While serving in Des Moines, I found that the times I enjoyed most were the moments when constituents would come to me with issues and I was able to help them find solutions for those issues. However, I began to discover that many of the issues people were having difficulty with, were more local problems rather than state wide issues.
I have felt for some time, as many of you have felt, that we lack leadership, and often even a voice, at the county level. I believe that my experience at the State House, the Linn County Fair, the Linn County Extension and Linn County Planning and Zoning, along with a lifetime of running a farm and small business, provides me with the problem solving and leadership experience necessary to provide an understanding ear and an effective voice for our county.
With that in mind, I have decided, with the help of my family and friends, I will be running for Linn County Supervisor in District 3.
The people of Linn County have struggled with what we wanted for representation and compensation since 2006. We have seen the board of supervisors go from full time, to part time, and back again, not to mention huge salary increases. Just last year they gave themselves a 15% raise. I don’t know about you but I didn’t get a 15% raise last year. At $115,000, our supervisors are the second highest paid supervisors in the state. Our Supervisors salary does not reflect serving the people, rather, it’s taking advantage of them.
Service in government is not a road to getting rich. Our supervisors are overpaid. I want to change that. Our supervisors should not be giving themselves 15% raises. We should all be asking ourselves, are we getting what we are paying for? I don’t think so, that’s why I am running for supervisor. I want to start by reducing the pay to a reasonable level.
This November, if you don’t think you are getting what you are paying for, a vote for Louie is a vote for honest and fair representation and no one will work harder for you than I will. Thank you for listening and I’d appreciate your vote.
Giving a voice to our rural areas and small towns.
Reducing supervisor’s pay to comply with the wishes of the voters.
Implementing responsible conservation and water quality practices.
Getting the county out of the
development business.
Making sure that property taxes reflect the real priorities of voters.
Actually listening to constituents.
